As usual, Ohel Yonah Menachem shul will be holding its
annual tekes Yom Hashoah on Monday evening, erev Yom
Hashoah, 24th April 2006 at 8:45 in the shul hall.
This year, we are honoured to have Mrs. Ruth
Mittleman, a survivor of Ravensbrück, the only major
Nazi concentration camp exclusively for women in
Germany, tell her story. Ravensbruck's location was
chosen by Himmler because it was out-of-the-way and at
the same time easy to reach. Established in Autumn
1938, its estimated number of victims were 92,000
women. The conditions of life in Ravensbrück were as
shameful and difficult as in all the other
concentration camps--death by starvation, beating,
torture, hanging, and shooting happened daily. The
women who were too weak to work were transferred to be
gassed at the Uckermark "Youth Camp" located nearby
Ravensbruck or to Auschwitz. Others were killed by
lethal injections or used for "medical" experiments by
the SS doctors.
Mrs. Mittleman, herself a veteran lecturer and
volunteer at Yad Vashem will give us first hand
experiences of how she was able to survive
Please join us for this important occasion.

The evening will be conducted in Hebrew.
