Coming Soon! Your Address for the Knesset in Beit Shemesh
Sun, May 05 2019, 12:00 PM

Local resident Kati Shitrit who is a member of the 21st Knesset (Likud) has announced that she will open a non-parliamentary bureau in Beit Shemesh.

Former mayor, Moshe Abutbul has announced that he too will open a non-parliamentary bureau in Beit Shemesh if he ends up as a member of the 21st Knesset. As the Shas Party only received 8 seats and Moshe Abutbul is number 9, he will not be appointed MK unless one of the other members of his party who also serve as Minster in the government, steps down from being a MK and vacates his seat to Moshe Abutbul. This is allowed by a the "Norwegian Law."

What is a foreign parliamentary bureau? What is it used for? Who finances it? And most importantly, how can this help Beit Shemesh residents?

The Knesset allots a budget to each member of the Knesset to be able to set up a bureau and hire the necessary staff. This is part of the effort of the government to maintain relations with the public.

Any person can come to this bureau and request the assistance of the MK in any matter in which he needs his help.
The Knesset member has many tools to assist citizens. Firstly, he can appeal to government offices on behalf of the citizens.
Secondly, the Knesset provides the MK with various tools in order to assist the public. Such as Queries (שאילתות), committees (ועדות) and the like. In addition the MK has more of an impact when they make an appeal to the media as when a regular citizen does.

The expenses of operating the bureau are financed by the Knesset. The budget is intended solely for this purpose and not for any other use. In addition, the Knesset finances three parliamentary assistants, who assist the MK in all his work.

We will keep you posted as this develops and share the details of how to contact MK Kati Shitrit once her bureau is established.
