Thu, May 21 2020, 12:00 PM

As part of the preparation for the new 2020-2021 school year, Mayor Dr. Aliza Bloch lead the founding of a new Mamad (Mamlachti Dati) school, Gesher, which will follow the anthroposophical education system (like the Waldorf system).

The Gesher school will open its doors for the upcoming school year with a class of 1st graders and will add more grades every year. The school will follow the “community learning” model under which the students will be split into 3 learning spaces; The first for the 1st-2nd graders, the second for the 3rd-4th graders and the last for the 5th-6th graders. Every space will focus on different goals. 1st-2nd grade: learning, playing, succeeding, 3rd-4th grade: learning, choosing and succeeding, 5th-6th grade: learning, imitating and succeeding.

Reshet Amit will offer pedagogical support and guidance to Gesher.

The Gesher school will share a space with the Levin Mamad school. At the end of the school year, the option of merging the two schools will be visited.

Mayor Dr. Aliza Bloch: “Having spaces for children and inquisitive learning is how the education of tomorrow is going to look like. That’s how Gesher will run. We are proud to have taken a city’s dream and make it into a reality. The establishment of Gesher is a statement. A pedagogical statement, a community statements and a city statement. The pedagogical system’s innovation and the community driven model will draw new audiences. I have no doubt that the school will flourish and succeed.”

Deputy to the Municipality and Director of Education, Yishayahu Erenheich: “Ensuring quality education for all of the children in the city one of our top priorities. I have no doubt the Gesher will be a trailblazer, will succeed and will be one of the best schools in our city.”
