Who is Entitled to a Vacation Day on Election Day?

Monday, March 2nd is a legal vacation day which means that all entitled employees are allowed take off election day without having to use one of their paid vacation days.

Who is entitled to a vacation day on election day?
- Someone whose place is work is located within the jurisdiction of a general election.
- Someone who is registered in the voter registry of a local authority that is holding a general election even if his place of employment is not located within that jurisdiction.

Who is not entitled to a vacation day on election day? 
- Someone who is employed in a position that is defined as "public service" according to the list below (no need for the employee's consent).
- Someone who agreed to work on the sabbatical day or asked on his own initiative and his employer agreed to employ him.

According to the Minister of the Interior's announcement, the following services are considered "public services" operating on the day of local elections.
Interior Ministry employees who fill a position related to the elections on election day.
Employees of the local authorities, who on the day of elections hold a position related to the elections.
Party workers, party faction members in the Knesset,
employees of local government factions, and workers of lists of candidates or candidate proposals, as well as those in the operation for whom they serve or serve for election day only.
Transportation services, parking lots and gas stations.
Restaurants, cafes, kiosks, hotels 
Factories and agriculture, whose production processes are conducted continuously.
Communication services.
Water and electricity plants.
Fuel supply and transmission services.
Theaters, cinemas and other playhouses.
Newspapers, radio and television.
Transporting bread, fruit, vegetables and dairy products - until 11:00 am on Election Day.
Food-selling shops, between 6:00 am and 12:00 pm (up to 6 hours) on Election Day.
Baking and dairy products production.
Hospitals and other health services, operating on Saturdays and holidays in a special format, will operate in the same format on election day.
Security forces and rescue services.
Burial services.

Other services, which operate on Saturdays and holidays in a limited hours, will operate in the same limited houses on election day. This means that you can not force an employee who is not employed in the role of "public service" to work.

It is important to note that in both cases, the employer is obligated to allow the employee employed on election day to leave and exercise his right to vote.

Wages on Election Day 
An employee employed on Election Day, whether in the framework of an essential service or in another place of employment, is entitled to special compensation for his work during the election day. This compensation may be one of two:
1. Payment of a wage equal to 200% of the regular wage
2. Payment of a regular wage and the granting of vacation hours in exchange for the actual working hours.
