Description

Today (Thursday) a meeting is expected to be held to make a plan which will allow Ben Gurion Airport to open for flights abroad. The meeting will be attended by representatives of the Airports Authority, members of the National Security Council, the Ministry of Health and officials of the Ministry of Transportation to try to establish a system of fast Coronavirus tests at Ben Gurion Airport and thus reopen the skies of Israel.

Alon Kafaf, president of one of the companies that will compete for the establishment of the lineup, explained how it will work. 72 hours before the flight, the passengers will get tested for Corona at one of the drive-thru testing stations, and will receive the results on the mobile phone. If the travelers' test results come back negative for the virus, the passengers will be able to go to Ben Gurion Airport where a second test will be performed, the results of which will be received by the subject after landing at the destination so that each passenger can present 2 negative tests.

Travelers will also be tested for Coronavirus when they enter Israel, and while waiting for the results, the passenger will be sent to quarantine at home or at a hotel. If the test comes back negative then the traveler will be able to go out of quarantine, if it comes back positive then the traveller will stay in quarantine according to the current quarantine rules.

Many of the decision-makers support the move that will open the skies of Israel and allow the Ben Gurion Airport to continue working.

It should be noted that so far the idea has not been promoted mainly due to the state's fear that a private testing system could harm state-owned testing laboratories, including the transfer of manpower from state-owned laboratories to those in private for higher wages and the use of state-owned testing.

At a meeting to be held today, no final decision will be made, but a position should definitely be formed regarding the continuation of Ben Gurion Airport's and air operations to and from Israel.

A tender is expected to be published for the establishment of the laboratories in the next few days.
