Waiting for Final Approval: 1 Year Warranty for Renovation Work

The Economics Committee of the Knesset approved for a second and third reading a proposed draft law for renovation work, in which each renovation contractor will be required to give the customer a minimum of one year's warranty for repairs of NIS 20,000 or more. According to the proposal, during the warranty period, the renovation contractor will be required to make repairs of defects without requesting payment and within a reasonable amount of time for repairs worth NIS 20,000 or more.. For repairs worth less than NIS 20,000, the customer can still claim for damages caused by the contractor, but in this case, the burden of proof - that the contractor caused the damage - will apply to the customer. During the warranty period, for repairs worth over NIS 20,000, the contractor will be required to prove that he did not cause damage.
