Beginning Today (Sun): No More Masks Outdoors

After a year of being required to wear a face mask, last night (Motzei Shabbat) the director general of the Ministry of Health, Chezi Levy, signed the new ammendment to the Public Health Order according to which mask wearing will not be required in outdoor spaces (without gatherings) beginning today, Sunday.

The ammendment was announced earlier last week by Minister of Health, Yuli Edelstein in light of the low infection rate in the country credited to the successful vaccination campaign. This means that Israelis can stay outdoors where there is no gathering of crowds without a mask. The Ministry of Health emphasized that in non-open areas a mask is still required, in addition to social distancing and personal hygiene.

The head of the public health services, Dr. Sharon Elrai-Price, stated that "masks still should be kept on hand. The obligation to wear masks in enclosed spaces will continue. We do not know who around us is sick or not, vaccinated or not, and in closed spaces the risk is higher."

Wearing masks is still required in public transportation vehicles, in outdoor gatherings, indoor shopping centers and offices.
