Latest Figures: 15.3 Million Jews Worldwide

The "World Jewry Report" of the CBS for 2023 shows 15.3 million Jews worldwide.

The Central Bureau of Statistics published its annual report on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day and Heroism.

According to the report, there are about 15.3 million Jews worldwide. Jews currently make up 0.2% of the global population. 

• 7 million Jews live in Israel. Almost half of the Jewish population lives in Israel (46%).
• Of the Jews in Israel, about 5.6 million were born here, and 1.4 million were born abroad.

In 1939, before the outbreak of World War II and the Holocaust, there were approximately 16.6 million Jews living in the world, of which 449 thousand were in Israel (3%).

In 1948 (the year Israel was founded) the number of Jews in the world was 11.5 million and about 650 thousand of them lived in Israel (6%).

According to the CBS report there are:

7 million Jews living in Israel, making it the country with the highest number of Jews in the world.

6 million Jews live in the United States.

442,000 live in France.

394,000 live in Canada.

292,000 live in the United Kingdom.

173,000 live in Argentina.

145,000 live in Russia.

118,000 live in Germany.

118,000 live in Australia.

It is important to note that the population definitions for all countries, except Israel, refer to the Jewish 'core' population, which includes people who define themselves as Jews or people who were born to Jewish parents.
