MOH Committee Recommends Dropping Mask Law Outdoors

Last night, (Sunday) the Ministry of Health's Disease Control Committee recommended abolishing the obligation to wear masks outdoors. 

The recommendation was made in light of the low infection rate and against the background of the Ministry of Health's decision to exempt the IDF training and combat units from wearing masks in open areas. The pilot program exempting soldiers from wearing masks during outdoor operations is set to last for three months, after which the army will determine whether to continue with the exemption.

Among the experts advocating for dropping the obligation to wear masks outdoors is Dr. Nachman Ash, who says that there is no  epidemiological value in wearing masks in open areas. Prof. Galia Rahav, director of the infectious diseases unit at Sheba Medical Center, has agreed with Prof. Ash's approach regarding the masks in the open areas, but expresses reservations about the discipline of Israeli citizens.

In an interview with the Ynet studio, Rahav said: People will say that they do not have to wear masks,  so they will stop wearing it indoors as well as outdoors.She added that the education system is still recommended to wear masks, because students have not yet been vaccinated. 

As of now, the Ministry of Health has not announced a change in the mask law
