Dr. Weichholz's office is open and is accepting appointments. The MOH has provided details on proper infection control to protect our patients and our staff.  We will make longer appointments and time between appointments to allow for proper distancing among the patients and sterilization of the treatment room between patients.

Are you suffering from Gum Disease?

80% of adults suffer from gum disease even though they brush their teeth regularly!

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Research shows that it is also associated with other chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Gingivitis (gum inflammation) is caused by the bacteria in plaque build-up on our teeth and causes the gums to be irritated and perhaps bleed while being brushed. At this point no serious damage has yet occurred.

However, if gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis. This means the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets. These small spaces between teeth and gums collect debris and can become infected. The toxins or poisons produced start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. When this happens, teeth are no longer anchored in place and can fall out. The disease is usually painless!

 Symptoms for gum disease include:

  • Gums that bleed when you brush your teeth
  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Bad breath
  • Gums that have shrunken and moved away from the teeth
  • Changes in the way teeth on the top and bottom come together
  • Pus between the gums and the teeth
  • Loose or separated teeth

 What to do?

The good news is that gum disease is treatable by a professional. Only a periodontist is qualified to treat gum disease because of their extensive training. When not done properly these procedures can cause irrevocable damage to the patient.

"Early diagnosis is the best way to treat periodontal disease," says Dr. Dani Weichholz, DDS, an American Board Certified Periodontist.

"The periodontist who are the experts in periodontal disease, its diagnosis and treatment, can help determine if there is a problem and if so what the extent of the problem is and can work with the patient and his/her family dentist to deal with this problem early on when its relatively easy to take care of. Once that is done they can continue to work with a patient and the dentist to help maintain good oral health for the rest of the patient's life."

Dr. Dani Weichholz is a certified specialist in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of inflammatory diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, and in the placement of dental implants.  Because of his extensive training, he can offer solutions to problems that in the past were considered untreatable.

Dr. Weichholz sees his patients at his American-style clinic located in Neimi Center and is available to answer any questions or concerns!
