Description

Beit Shemesh is a growing city with over 130,000 residents. There are 4,000 births a year and 40% of the population are under the age of 16.

Currently the nearest hospital is a 40 minute drive - when there’s no traffic. There are countless instances of people rushing to the hospital, giving birth on Route 10, Route 38, and Route 1, and even giving birth in the local kupah, as a result of the lack of hospital-level care in the area.  The local emergency care centers, Terem and Ezrat Achims sprinkled all over the city, alleviate, but do not reducing the need for people to travel to hospital emergency rooms. And of course, there is the burgeoning fleet of Hatzala Beit Shemesh, MADA, and Ichud Hatzala, who step in and take care of the community, providing first aid, urgent care, and transport to the nearest hospitals available. But this situation can’t go on.

This past week, Mayor Aliza Bloch and Health Council Member Yisrael Silverstein held a professional tour with CEO of Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, Professor Ze'ev Rothstein and his professional team on the possibility of establishing a branch of HEK in Beit Shemesh. This initiative would establish an advanced and modern hospital with high-quality and professional care. On their tour, they viewed potential locations for the hospital branch.

Mayor Aliza Bloch said, “I consider it of utmost importance to promote and work to establish a hospital in the coming years. We will work night and day so that there will be a hospital that provides high-quality health services for all residents here in our home - Beit Shemesh."
