The Road Safety Authority published its 2018 road safety report which indexes the large and medium-sized cities in Israel according to those with the highest probability of being hit.

According to the report, Beit Shemesh ranks as the safest large-size city in Israel, with only 1.6 accidents per 1,000 people. Ashelon ranks as Israel’s most dangerous large-size city with 11 accidents for every 1,000 people.

From the medium-sized cities, Nazareth was ranked as the most dangerous with 11 accidents per 1,000 people in 2018. Betar Illit and Modi'in Illit were ranked as the safest medium-sized cities 1 accident per 1,000 persons each.

This annual index of the National Road Safety Authority is supposed to motivate cities to improve, invest in their infrastructure and promote road safety education. Many cities are in better shape than previously. Rosh Ha'Ayin, Beitar Illit, Kfar Saba, Hod Hasharon and Herzliya are cities who have been recognized for having the greatest improvement in the past three years. Beit Shemesh, Netanya, Teyva and Tel Aviv positive have also improved. The two cities to have gone down in their safety rankings since 2016 are Rahat and Modiin-Maccabim-Reut.
