Unilever Israel Announces recall of more products - from Strauss...

Following the recent news about the Salmonella contamination, and the recall of Strauss Elite chocolates from store shelves, yesterday Unilever announced that Strauss ice creams have also been added to the recall list.

Strauss announced yesterday (Monday) that they had carried out a full investigation at their production sites. During testing, the Salmonella bacteria was found in some finished products, and also the raw materials and the production environment.

There are reports of people getting sick with Salmonella infections:

Yesterday morning (Monday), Assuta Public Hospital in Ashdod reported that two children were hospitalized in the pediatric ward, one of whom was diagnosed with Salmonella, and one of them with concerns that he had contracted the bacteria.

A 37-year-old woman arrived at the Terem clinic in the Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem yesterday (Tuesday) with symptoms of Salmonella, after eating large quantities of chocolate that morning. The woman suffered from fever, headaches, severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. She was treated with antibiotics and fluids and was released in the afternoon.

A 27-year-old man, who has been suffering from fever, headaches, abdominal pain and vomiting for four days also went to Terem. He noted that he ate chocolate products suspected of being infected with the bacterium. The man received treatment in the clinic and was released to his home. The results of the cultures that were taken to check for Salmonella will arrive tomorrow.

Unilever announced yesterday (Monday) that in order to take every precaution, they have announced the recall of a number of products, as a safety measure. "The company asks the public not to consume the products listed. Consumers who have bought items marked with the dates listed below can contact Unilever's Customer for a reimbursement"

The Aroma chain of restaurants will not be serving the little square chocolates which they usually add to coffee orders, because these are also produced by Strauss.
