Description

Winter is almost here and with it the rain - making slippery roads and poor visibility. The NRSA and the Garage Association recommend that you prepare your vehicles for winter. You are invited to bring your vehicle for a winter check that is carried out free of charge. The promotion will last from November 1, 2022 to March 1, 2023.

This year, the Garage Association is including checks on motorcycles and motor-scooters as well.

Driving in 'first rain' conditions can be dangerous even for seasoned and experienced drivers: The rainwater mixes with engine oil that has accumulated on the road, creating a slippery mixture that weakens the grip of the tires on the road and endangers road users.

In Israel, where there are large intervals without rain, almost every rainfalls creates "first rain" conditions.

In order to ensure your car's safety, you are invited to a free check before the rainy season, and prepare it for the Israeli winter. Safety tests are held in various garages throughout the country, to test the vehicle's systems, including brakes, tires, lights, wipers and steering. The NRSA, in cooperation with the Garage Association, invites you to book a safety inspection at the nearest garage. The list of garages doing the winter checks can be found on the website of the Garage Association. (They are listed in alphabetical order, rather than by city/region. Use Ctrl+F to search for Beit Shemesh)

In the winter preparation test, the vehicle's safety systems will be checked, including:

  • Tires (including the spare) - their condition (are they dry?), the depth of the grooves and the inflation pressure.

  • Brakes - their performance and braking efficiency.

  • Steering system - its performance, including the condition of the steering wheel connections.

  • Lights - their operation and the direction of the headlights.

  • Wipers - their proper operation and the condition of the rubber blades.

Regulations require a winter inspection every year for trucks whose total weight exceeds 10 tons, for work vehicles and for buses - with the exception of private minibuses.

The regulations do not require the owner of a private vehicle to perform the inspection and prepare the vehicle for winter, but they do require that the vehicle be in good working order at all times.

The winter inspection is an opportunity for safety care of the vehicle between the annual tests and between the periodic checks.

A vehicle that has passed the test receives an official label, which indicates that all the systems have been checked.
