This morning the Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar, accompanied by senior staff from his ministry, visited Beit Shemesh and met with Mayor Shmuel Greenberg and senior municipal officials.
During the meeting, Minister Zohar announced the approval of a new tennis court at Gefen Park (Apple Park), a tender for planning sports facilities, and more sports budget allocations. He also approved an expanded cultural budget that will include summer shows for the general and Haredi public starting next month, and a significant increase in the city's library budget. The minister stated that the Ministry of Culture and Sports will continue to work closely with Beit Shemesh and develop these areas in the city.
The focus of the visit was to strengthen the close cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and the Beit Shemesh Municipality, led by the city’s Deputy Mayor and Culture Commissioner Moshe Shitrit. This cooperation is reflected in the support and promotion of cultural events throughout the city for all its communities.
Mayor Shmuel Greenberg said “Minister Miki Zohar, I want to thank you on behalf of all the city’s residents for the exceptional support your ministry provides in the fields of culture and sports. Beit Shemesh is a city of communities, and we do everything we can to bring diverse culture to the city. Your visit today is great news for the city. I am confident that this cooperation will continue and that Beit Shemesh will remain a cultural hub for all its residents and visitors.”
Minister Zohar responded “I am pleased to be here in Beit Shemesh, a city with many complex issues, but at the same time, a model for harmony and shared living with mutual respect. The ministry sees culture and sports as essential components of community life and a common ground connecting all populations in the city. We will continue to support Beit Shemesh and help it develop its cultural and sports sectors for the benefit of all residents. The strong cooperation with Mayor Shmuel Greenberg and the ministry’s support will, G-d willing, advance Beit Shemesh to become a leading city of culture in Israel.”
Deputy Mayor Moshe Shitrit said "We need proper tennis courts, an additional country club, sports halls, and the creation of suitable infrastructure for hosting numerous cultural events for all sectors. The mayor prioritizes cultural issues, and I am sure that with the minister’s support, we will be able to meet these goals.”
