Your chance to ask questions to the Iriyah!
The Shemesh online website presents your questions to city council member Avi Ehrentreu, and every week we will post his answers here.

Question from a local resident:
On October 31st a notice was sent out saying that the Mayor was working on a solution to handle the crazy morning traffic jam at the exit from RBS A/G/H/Mishkafayim. Still waiting. In traffic jams! Can you please inform us of the progress that's been made since then to handle this problem

Avi Ehrentreu answers:
A recent question from a resident highlights a frustration shared by many - what’s the progress on the solution to the heavy morning traffic jams at the exit from RBS A/G/H/Mishkafayim? It’s an excellent opportunity to explain how projects like this progress through the system and why they sometimes take longer than we would all like.

Once an idea like this is brought up, the process begins with an approval to move into the planning stage. At this point, a budget is allocated specifically for the planning phase, which involves hiring external professionals such as architects and transport planners. Once the plans and options are developed, they are presented for review, where we either approve them or choose the best solution from several proposals.

After plans are ratified, the project moves to the bidding stage (michraz), where contractors compete to carry out the work. Once a contractor is selected, we must allocate funds for the actual construction and implementation. Only after all these steps are completed does the project officially begin.

As you can see, while the mayor and all of us in the municipality are eager to move forward, the bureaucratic process can be frustratingly slow. However, I want to reassure you that this issue is not being ignored. Progress is being made, and a solution is on the horizon - it just takes time to navigate the necessary steps.

Looking ahead, one of my long-term goals is to work on streamlining these processes, taking inspiration from figures like the Argentine president Javier Milei  and innovators like Elon Musk with D.O.G.E., who have championed ways to cut through bureaucracy to deliver obvious and essential solutions more efficiently.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We’re committed to bringing a resolution to this issue as soon as possible!

Warm regards,
Avi Ehrentreu
