Beit Shemesh Municipality is launching an ambitious energy initiative to turn municipal rooftops, lots and buildings into assets that generate income, reduce costs and provide backup power during emergencies.
⚡ At the center of the project are 12 new energy-storage systems with a combined capacity of about 7 MW. The municipality says this is the largest energy-storage project by a local authority in Israel to reach the implementation stage. The systems are expected to generate around ₪700,000 per year for the city.
☀️ The municipality currently operates 35 solar systems, generating approximately ₪2.4 million annually. The goal is to increase municipal solar production from 3.3 MW to around 10 MW within one year.
💰 The city is also investing about ₪11 million in energy storage, smart energy management and additional projects, with funding from the Ministries of Interior and Energy & Infrastructure.
🏟️ Solar canopies are planned for sports courts and the municipal stadium, while future neighborhoods, public buildings and industrial areas will be planned with solar panels, energy storage, EV charging and smart energy systems in mind.
⚡️ The goal: Beit Shemesh won't just consume more electricity as the city grows - it will produce more, store it, save money and generate new revenue. ☀️💰
