It's a month since the start of Operation Am Kalavi, when foreign airlines cancelled their Israel flights. Now, with the return of relative calm, international airlines are starting to return to regular operations in Israel, in time for the start of the summer season.
The Ministry of Transport and the Airports Authority are preparing for an increase in passengers: 1.5 million passengers in July and approximately 1.9 million in August. Terminal 1 will reopen and a new screening and check-in area will be opened in Terminal 3.
Reopening of Terminal 1: Starting August 3rd, Terminal 1 will return to international operations, initially with El Al, Arkia, Israir and Georgian Airways, and later also with the low-cost airline Wizz Air and other companies.
New screening and check-in complex at Terminal 3: On August 14th, a new and advanced concourse at Terminal 3 will be opened, covering an area of approximately 3,900 square meters. The new complex includes 22 check-in stations, state-of-the-art security screening systems and baggage delivery. The cost of construction is approximately 50 million shekels.
Transport Minister, Miri Regev announced that after intensive diplomatic talks with senior European officials, the recommendation not to fly to Israel has been lifted. The move reopens the market for many airlines, and repositions Israel as an international aviation destination. At least 120 new flights will be added in August as airlines resume service earlier than expected. Carriers include United Airlines, Lufthansa Group, Wizz Air, and Aegean.
~ Air Europa will land at Ben Gurion Airport today, with flights to major tourist destinations Madrid and Barcelona.
~ The Greek airline Aegean is also expected to return to Israel tomorrow, one of the main airlines in the Balkan region. In the first phase, the company will offer flights to Athens, Crete and Larnaca. Later it is expected to expand its activities to the popular destinations of Mykonos and Thessaloniki.
~ United Airlines flights will restart on July 21st, with 14 weekly flights to New York, adding 56 flights next month.
~ Lufthansa resumes gradually starting August 1st, though destinations remain unconfirmed.
~ Wizz Air will add 41 European flights starting August 8th, to destinations like Larnaca, Budapest, Dubai, and London in August, with more European cities added in September.
~ EasyJet just announced that it will not resume flights to Israel until the end of March 2026.
Passengers are advised to check with the airlines for any upcoming flights.
