When a fruit tree is seen in bloom, during the month of Nisan, it is customary to recite Birkat ha-Ilanot. While the custom is to recite the Bracha during the month of Nisan, the Bracha can actually be said as long as there is blossom on the tree.
For your convenience, the Bracha is listed below in different Nussachs:
There is a longer text that can be found in your Sidur.
Please note regarding this minhag:
- The blessing is recited on a fruit tree that does not bear a status of "Orlah" (older than three years old).
- One should see the blossoms of the tree and not the leaves alone.
- One should see the blossoms before reciting the blessing, and not after.
- This Bracha is applicable for everyone. - The Bracha is recited only once a year.
Naomi Geffen invites the community to say Birkat Ha'ilanot l'ilui nishmat her husband Rabbi David Geffen z"l, who was born on Rosh Chodesh Nisan. Her address: 30/10 Nachal Lachish, RBS A.
