After months of limited direct flights from Israel to the United States, the return of major American airlines to Israel is beginning to take place.
United Airlines plans to resume nonstop service between Ben Gurion Airport and Newark, New Jersey, on September 8, 2026, with two daily flights.
The airline confirmed the plan in a recent statement after suspending its Israel operations following the security situation and war with Iran. Its return will give travelers heading to the New York area another nonstop option alongside Israeli airlines operating the route.
✈️ What about Delta?
Delta Air Lines is also planning to resume its nonstop service between New York JFK and Tel Aviv in early September.
According to Delta’s latest official update, its JFK-Tel Aviv service is still planned to resume on September 6. However, the airline continues to monitor the security situation, meaning the schedule could still change.
It is important to distinguish between Delta’s routes. While the New York-Tel Aviv service remains planned for September, Delta’s Atlanta-Tel Aviv service remains suspended, with the pause extended through December 18.
More competition, more options
The return of United and Delta could be significant for travelers flying between Israel and the United States.
Since the suspension of major US carriers, nonstop options to the US have been more limited, leaving Israeli airlines to handle much of the direct traffic.
If the current plans go ahead, early September could bring more seats, more choices and renewed competition for passengers traveling between Israel and the United States.
