Today, for Yom HaShoah a look at the latest data on Holocaust survivors in Israel.
Currently, it is estimated that 111,000 Holocaust survivors live in Israel.
All Holocaust survivors alive today are over 80 years old, with about 28% of them already over 90
Gender: 63% are women, 37% are men.
Almost half of Holocaust survivors (49.3%) are widows or widowers. There are currently about 9,300 couples living in Israel in which both partners are Holocaust survivors.
Birthplace: About 60% of Holocaust survivors living in Israel are natives of Europe (36% from the former USSR, 11% from Romania, 5% from Poland.), 17% from Morocco, 11% from Iraq.
Immigration Year: While most Holocaust survivors from Germany and Austria immigrated to Israel before the establishment of the state, most Holocaust survivors from the former Soviet Union (about 84%) immigrated in the 1990s.
Residency: Holocaust survivors living in Israel are spread throughout the country, with approximately 95% of them living in urban areas. Largest populations in Haifa (7,500), Jerusalem (7,100), Tel Aviv (6,000), Ashdod (5,50), Netanya (5,400).
