Hunger in Beit Shemesh -- Could It Be Your Neighbor?

Every week, more families quietly go without food. With your help, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is making sure no neighbor is forgotten.

When it comes to giving Tzedakah, there are priorities – first we give to family members in need, then to our neighbors.

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is on the ground in the greater Beit Shemesh area, making sure that any locals who are struggling financially have food to eat and feed their families. “This Rosh Hashanah, we are feeding 400 families in the Beit Shemesh area,” says organization founder Aryeh Lurie, “lend a hand and help your neighbor.”

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is dedicated to giving food to the needy in a dignified way – without a trace of embarrassment. Yad Ezra V’Shulamit helps widows, orphans, children, families, the elderly, and anyone who is struggling to put food on the table. All of these factors combined put Yad Ezra V’Shulmait up in the ranks as the highest form of tzedakah that one can give.

“Thank you so much to Yad Ezra V’Shulamit” says one recipient from Beit Shemesh, “Your baskets are a lifeline to us. We have seven beautiful children to feed, and would be in a dire situation without the help you give us every week.”

Who They’re Helping In Beit Shemesh:
(All names have been changed to uphold privacy).

Sarah worked for years as an independent caregiver, but she couldn’t return to work this past year due to a series of severe medical complications. She underwent surgery on both legs and is still in recovery. Because she is self-employed, she was denied approval for any form of financial relief from medical committees.

Sarah’s husband is burdened with overwhelming debts. Month after month, he rushes from one gemach to another, trying desperately to repay the thousands of shekels borrowed to marry off their children. The situation has grown so dire that they often have to turn to their married children for loans just to cover basic expenses.

The toll has been crushing. The husband himself battles diabetes, relies on daily medication, and cannot withstand stress—yet the financial pressures mount.

“Without Yad Ezra V’Shulamit’s food baskets, I don’t know how we would live” says Sarah, “Thank you to everyone who makes this possible.”

The Rosh Hashanah Project – Get Involved!

For Rosh Hashanah, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is scaling up its operations to feed five times the number of people as usual, so that no one goes hungry in the Beit Shemesh area this holiday season. They will be distributing 62,000 food baskets and vouchers at 93 distribution points all across Israel, including enough in the greater Beit Shemesh area, to feed 400 families in need for the holidays.
