As of February 25, 2026, a full tax exemption is granted for personal imports of goods (excluding tobacco and alcohol) with a total value of up to $130. As of today, 3rd May 2026, $130 is worth 382.70 Israeli New Shekels.
The $130 Rule: Shipments valued at up to $130 are fully exempt from import taxes, VAT and customes duty. Note, this exemption does not apply to tobacco, alcohol, alcoholic beverages, and electronic cigarettes.
Packages valued between $130 and $500 are subject to VAT only (18%)
Packages valued over $500 may also incur customs duties and purchase tax.
NOTE: The calculation is based on the value of the product including shipping and insurance.
Shein: It seems that shipments from Shein do not incur import taxes at the moment, but this has not been officially stated.
Tax Calculator: It is recommended to use the Israel Tax Authority's Import Tax Calculator for a specific check before ordering.
The 72-Hour Rule: To prevent attempts to bypass taxes by splitting shipments, two or more packages sent from the same supplier to the same recipient within 72 hours are treated as a single shipment. In this case, import taxes are calculated based on the total value of all packages together.
Impact for Consumers: Planning orders wisely and leaving a gap between shipments can save money and ensure packages arrive in without unexpected tax charges.
