Memorial Day for Israel’s Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terror will begin on Tuesday evening, April 29th, at 8pm with a one-minute siren.
The day will open with an official state ceremony at the Western Wall, accompanied by a one-minute moment of silence. Afterwards, memorial events will be held throughout the country.
When do stores close for Memorial Day?
Due to Memorial Day, all businesses will close at 7pm on Tuesday will remain closed until 6am the next day. This includes supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, snack bars, and kiosks.
Memorial Day will continue throughout Wednesday, April 30th. At 11am a two-minute siren will sound, followed by the official state ceremony at Mount Herzl and additional memorial ceremonies at military cemeteries across the country.
In the event of a real emergency siren, fluctuating (rising and falling) sirens will be heard.
At 8pm on Wednesday, Memorial Day for Israel’s Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terror will officially end, and the celebrations of Israel’s 77th Independence Day will begin with the Torch-Lighting Ceremony at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.

🚄 On Memorial Day evening (Tuesday), Israel Railways will operate according to the regular schedule. However, starting from 7pm, there will be some service reductions on frequent bus lines, due to the lower number of passengers compared to regular weekdays. According to the official schedules, these reductions will be minor.
On Wednesday morning and afternoon, buses and trains will operate according to the regular schedule. This includes more buses on local routes. Additionally, bus lines to military cemeteries will be reinforced, and bereaved families will receive a 50% discount on train travel upon presenting the appropriate certificate.
Starting in the afternoon on Wednesday, around 3pm bus and train schedules will change: Local routes and other low-demand lines will gradually cease operations, while the frequency of other lines will gradually decrease. Israel Railways will also reduce the number of trains, and on most lines, trains will run once per hour.
