Public transportation fares in Israel will not increase in 2026, following an agreement between the Transportation and Finance Ministries. A fare hike that was scheduled to take effect on July 1st 2026 has been postponed, meaning bus and rail ticket prices will remain unchanged through the end of this year.
The move is part of the government's efforts to encourage public transit use, ease the cost of living, and reduce financial pressure on millions of commuters. It comes alongside expanded fare discounts under the "Transportation Justice" reform and continued investment in transit infrastructure and service improvements.
At the same time, the Transportation Ministry is working with the Finance Ministry to eliminate the automatic mechanism that links public transportation fares to inflation, with the goal of preventing future automatic price increases and providing long-term fare stability.
Transportation Minister Miri Regev said the ministry remains committed to lowering living costs and improving public transportation nationwide, while Director-General Moshe Ben-Zaken said the fare freeze will provide commuters with greater certainty during a period of rising prices.
