1. Cell Broadcast (CB) Technology - Most Reliable Method - No Need to Touch your Phone over Shabbat

The Home Front Command now uses Cell Broadcast technology to deliver emergency alerts.

  • Reliability: This system does not rely on cellular data or Wi-Fi; it sends a direct signal to all phones in a specific geographic area.

  • Settings: If you leave your phone on, you will hear a loud, distinct alarm for both the initial warning and the "All Clear" confirmation.

  • Placement: It is highly recommended to leave one phone in a central open area of the house and one phone inside your Mamad (protected space) to ensure the alert is heard regardless of where you are.

2. Home Front Command App:

To hear the app on Shabbat, you must manually go into your phone settings and enable "Critical Alerts" for the app, which allows it to bypass your phone's silent or "Do Not Disturb" modes.  Remember to ensure your "Location Services" are set to "Always"

3. The "Silent Radio" (Gal Shaket)

The following radio stations will operate as a Silent stations:

  • What it does: The station remains silent until there is an alert in your area. It will then broadcast the warning, specific instructions, and the "All Clear".

  • Key Frequencies for Beit Shemesh/Jerusalem:

    • Kan Moreshet: 90.5, 90.8, 92.5, or 100.7 FM

    • Radio Kol Chai: 92.8, 93, or 102.5 FM

    • Radio Kol Barama: 92.1, 104.3, or 105.7 FM

3. What NOT to Rely On

  • Telephone Ring-Exit Systems: Do not rely on previous "call-back" or telephone ring campaigns.

  • Old Apps: Ensure you are using the official Home Front Command App and that "Critical Alerts" are enabled in your phone settings to bypass silent mode.

Persons with Hearing Impairments
Persons with hearing impairments opt to receive an alert through a 10-second-long vibration (in Android devices, vibration is activated through the app’s Settings page, and in iOS devices, activating the vibration is done through the device’s settings). In Android devices, there is  an option to receive the alert accompanied by a flashing light in the device’s flashlight.
