UPDATE 24th March: The Vaada Mechozit will be meeting next week to approve the plan.
Construction Project Planned Near Neve Shamir Junction
A significant construction project is currently under review for the intersection of Nahar HaYarden and Nahar HaYarkon streets in Ramat Beit Shemesh Alef. The proposal includes the development of approximately 90 dunams of land near the entrance to Neve Shamir, designated for a mix of residential and commercial buildings.
The area in question was originally designated as a green space, intended to include parks and public pathways. The new plan, now under consideration by the District Planning Committee (Va'ada Mechozit), includes a rezoning request that would allow for high-density construction in place of the previously planned open areas.
If approved, the project would be located at the junction of Yarkon and Eliyahu Hanavi streets, impacting surrounding neighborhoods such as RBS Alef, Mishkafayim, RBS Gimmel, and Daled.
As of late July, more than 1,000 residents have signed a petition expressing concerns about the plan. The petition highlights issues such as traffic congestion, reduction in green space, and insufficient infrastructure to support the expected population increase.
