Teen Workers - Do You Know Your Rights?

Summer is here – and it's a great time to work, gain experience and also... earn money!
But wait! Before you sign a contract or start a shift – it's important to know your rights as young workers

At what age can you start?
✅ You can start working from age 14, but only in appropriate light work and during summer vacation only.
✅ Teenagers aged 15-16 can work during the summer too, and during the school year – but only outside school hours.

What is the minimum wage?
(As of April 1st, 2026)

🧒 Up to age 16 – minimum of 26.07 NIS per hour
🧑 Up to age 17 – minimum of 27.94 NIS per hour
🧑‍🎓 Up to age 18 – minimum of 30.92 NIS per hour
🧑🏻‍🤝‍🧑🏻 Age 18+ – minimum of 35.40 NIS per hour

❗ If you must first undergo a "trial period" or "unpaid training" – be aware that you're entitled to wages from the first hour!

⏱ How many hours are you allowed to work?
Up to 8 hours a day (and those 16 and over – up to 9 hours a day if working only 5 days a week).
📅 In total – up to 40 hours a week, no more.
🛑 On Shabbat eve or a holiday eve – you are permitted to work up to 7 hours only.

🌙 What about nighttime hours?
It is forbidden to employ teenagers under 18 between 20:00 and 08:00, and during vacations – between 01:00 and 08:00 in the morning.
🚗 And what if there's no public transportation at night when the shift ends?
If there's no other arrangement, the employer must arrange transportation home.

🚌 Reimbursement for travel? Absolutely! You're entitled to daily reimbursement for transportation – up to 22.60 NIS per work day 🚍

🍴 Breaks are mandatory, not optional! After 6 hours of continual work, you must have a 45-minute break, of which at least 30 minutes must be consecutive (you can rest, eat, refresh).

📢 Feel like an employer isn't following the law? Don't let it slide in silence! You can make an anonymous complaint!
Contact the appropriate authorities – Ministry of Labor, Employment Service, or the Histadrut.
🔍 Your rights matter – and the law is on your side!
