The railway announced today that starting tomorrow, Tel Aviv HaShalom station will be closed for a week, until Tuesday August 26th.

Train travel between the north of the city and the south will not be possible.

All lines arriving from the north of Tel Aviv will end at Savidor station. Lines from the south of Tel Aviv will stop in Lod. Trains from Jerusalem and Modi'in will only reach Ben Gurion Airport.

You can see the details about the changes on the Israel Rail website: https://www.rail.co.il/

Tel Aviv HaShalom is the busiest railway station in Israel, with an average of over 2 million passengers each month.

"Given the disruptions to train traffic due to the accidental damage last week, Israel Railways decided to take advantage of the opportunity and move forward the essential safety work that was originally planned for September. The move is intended to prevent double harm to the traveling public - both now and in a few weeks," the railway said.

"The work will be carried out in the center of the railway network, between the Tel Aviv HaHagana and Tel Aviv Savidor Center stations, and will include maintenance and upgrading of essential infrastructure components, including the system's 'heart valves' that allow trains to pass between tracks and serve most of the travel demand"

Israel Railways will operate dedicated shuttle buses between Tel Aviv HaHagana, Tel Aviv HaShalom and Tel Aviv Savidor Center stations. The railway has promised that the bus frequency will be high, every five minutes, and free of charge.

Last week the top of a freight train car opened and caught on the power lines, tearing them down, in two different sections. This caused transport chaos and the complete shutdown of many lines. The cost of repairing the infrastructure and the damage caused is estimated at tens of millions of shekels.
