The price of an ESTA for the US will increase at the end of September. ESTA is the Electronic System for Travel Authorization.

The price of an ESTA for the US is going up, from $21 to $40 – Everything you need to know.

You will need an ESTA if you are a citizen or eligible national of a Visa Waiver Program country. See the picture above for the full list.

If you are planning to fly to the United States soon and hold citizenship of one of the Visa Waiver Program countries, including an Israeli passport, you should be aware: The price of an ESTA application - the electronic authorization for entry into the United States, is going to increase starting at the end of September 2025.

How much will an ESTA application cost starting in September?
Until now, the cost of an ESTA application was only $21. But starting September 30, 2025, the price will increase to $40 - almost double.

Why is the price going up?
The new price is part of a new law passed by the US Congress, which aims to fund systems related to border security and immigration programs. According to the official publication in the Federal Register, the change will allow for increased resources for monitoring, controlling and improving the traveler experience at ports of entry into the United States.

How can you save on the price increase?
Anyone who submits an ESTA application before 30th September 2025 will pay the current price: only $21. This is a savings of almost NIS 90 per person. If you have plans to come to the US in the near future or even in the coming year, it is recommended to submit the application now.

Where do I apply for an ESTA?
The application is submitted exclusively through the official US government website or the official ESTA application. There is no need for the services of agents or third-party websites. It is very important to beware of fake websites or those that charge unnecessary fees.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long is an ESTA valid?
An ESTA authorization is valid for two years from the date of receipt, as long as the passport with which you submitted the application remains valid. You can enter the US several times during the period (Multiple Entry), without the need to reapply.

Can I apply for ESTA on my own?
Yes. Anyone can easily submit the application themselves through the official website of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The application process takes only a few minutes, and requires filling out an online form and paying by credit card.

Is an ESTA application like a visa?
No. ESTA is not a visa but an electronic travel authorization issued under the Visa Waiver Program. ESTA holders are permitted to enter the United States for up to 90 days for tourism, business, or transit purposes.
