WAR INSURANCE: Questions & Answers
Q - Who is responsible for damage to my home or car in a missile attack?
A - Mas Rechush, a department of the Finance Ministry, is responsible for repairs and, where necessary, for full replacement.
Q - Will they replace everything that has been damaged?
A - Mas Rechush will repair/replace any damage to a structure or car. Regarding contents of a home, the cover is limited.
Q - What should I do about my policy in the meantime?
A - For example, if the assessor of Mas Rechush finds that your car is a Total Loss, that assesment should be submitted to us and your policy will be cancelled as of the date of damage. The remaining premium will be refunded. In a case where there is only partial damage, the recommendation is NOT to cancel because you might still need the regular coverage.
Q - Any other insurance issues because of the situation?
A - Usually you have to pay an additional premium if your home is unoccupied for more than 60 days. In a case where the occupants have to leave because there is no security room, or because the army evacuates them, this period will be extended to 120 days without additional premium.
Q - Our daughter is stuck overseas, waiting for a flight to Israel - will her travel policy cover her for a return flight/hotel stay?
A - Most carriers belong to the International Air Travel Convention, whereby they are responsible to find a new flight/ compensate in these situations.
Q - Do I have to extend my policy if I’m delayed?
A - The companies we use have automatically extended the coverage for a week. After that, you need to inform us and we’ll extend.
