It’s beach season in Israel, and that means that along with the sun, surf, and sand, there are jellyfish!
In order to save beachgoers the disappointment of going to the beach, only to find out that there are jellyfish in the water, the Israel Jellyfish Site was created.
The Israel Jellyfish Website
The website is a community driven platform that updates users on the jellyfish status on all beaches in Israel. It relies on user reports to let everyone know which beach to are given the jellyfish all-clear and which beaches to stay away from.
The site distinguishes between poisonous and dangerous stinging jellyfish (shown in red) and non-stinging jellyfish that are harmless (shown in green), in order to prevent unnecessary panic at the beach.
So before you head to the beach, make sure to check the Israel Jellyfish website: https://www.meduzot.co.il/
Treatment for Jellyfish Stings:
1. Carefully pluck visible tentacles with fine tweezers.
2. Soak the skin in hot water. The water should feel hot, not scalding.
3. Keep the affected skin immersed or in a hot shower for 20 to 45 minutes.
National Poison Center
In case of serious symptoms such as vomiting, muscle cramps or difficulty breathing, the victim should be evacuated to the hospital as soon as possible. Phone number for acute poisoning (hotline): 04-777-1900 (24/7) - National Poison Center at Rambam.
