Water tests conducted on Monday, August 3, 2026, found bacterial levels above the Ministry of Health's recommended limit of 400 fecal coliform bacteria per 100 ml of water at several sites in northern Israel. The results indicate possible water pollution.
Entering the following streams and water sites may be dangerous until water test results return to safe and stable levels:
Jordan River - from Yosef Bridge to Arik Bridge
Meshushim Pool
Gilbon Stream
Zaki Stream
Yehudiya Stream
Majrase (Beticha)
El Al Stream
Tzalmon Stream - Haruv Pool
The Ministry of Environmental Protection has not identified a known source of pollution in these streams.
As part of routine monitoring, water samples are collected every two weeks by Israel Nature and Parks Authority inspectors at fixed locations in streams across northern Israel, including the Upper Galilee, the Golan Heights and the Western Galilee. The sampling points represent waterfalls, pools or sections of streams.
The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection are continuing to test and monitor the water and will provide further updates as needed.
