Yesterday, Beit Shemesh Mayor Shmuel Greenberg was sworn in and officially assumed his term as mayor. Alongside him, 25 council members were sworn in, including 14 new councillors.
The opening meeting of the Beit Shemesh City Council with the swearing in of the mayor and council members were held yesterday evening in the city's Eshkol Payis Hall.
Beit Shemesh Mayor Shmuel Greenberg said "We are at the beginning of five years in which we will develop the city, its public space, education, transportation, cleanliness, culture and all areas of life. The elections are over, now we're going to get to work."
The event was attended by Mayor Shmuel Greenberg, Minister of Housing - Yitzchak Goldknopf, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Moshe Gafni, Minister of Jerusalem and Tradition Meir Porush, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Moshe Abutbul, Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport Yaakov Tessler, MK Yaakov Asher, and the mayors of several local municipalities. The new councilors' families and the outgoing council members also attended.
During the evening, Mayor Shmuel Greenberg and the council members were inaugurated and appointed deputies, and responsibilities were allocated to the various council members.

Shimon Goldberg - Deputy and Acting Mayor, Chairman of the Planning and Building Committee, with engineering, municipal taxes and youth portfolios.
Yitzhak Elmalich - Deputy and Acting Mayor, holds the Education and Construction Bureau portfolio.
Hanoch Drenger - Deputy Mayor, Shefa (Sanitation deaparment) and Community Centers Supervisor.
Yisrael Silverstein – Manpower, Haredi Youth Department, Community Security Authority and Program 360.
Moshe Shitrit - Business, sports, culture and events licensing portfolios.
Moti Leitner - Security, culture, young communities and sports in the Haredi sector.
Rina Hollander - Status of Women, Moreshet Yisrael and Municipal Libraries.
Shlomo Brillant - Welfare.
Haim Zamora - Community Projects Officer.
Kalman Heiman - Haredi Youth & Noar.
Aharon Cohen - Mizrachi Heritage portfolio and Chairman of the Tenders Committee.
Shmuel Hazan - Religious buildings.
Eden Ben Shitrit - Neighborhood managers.
Yeshaya Weissman - Chair of the Allocations Committee, Economic development, Employment and Haredi culture.
Avraham Nachman Frenkel - Supervisor of the Economic Company and holder of the transportation portfolio.
Shalom Edri - Supervisor of the Old Beit Shemesh and urban renewal.
Zvi Wolitsky - Tourism, foreign relations and the environment.
Meir Shechter - Finance and procurement, informal education and in charge of Mei Shemesh
Yehoshua Boxbaum - Culture Officer for the Hasidic sector.
Yona Kaufman - Health, Aliyah and absorption portfolios.
Opposition members: Dudi Gozlan, Israel Getachu Bugle, Tammy Zussman, Nati Gabay.
Mayor Shmuel Greenberg began his speech by saying: "Beit Shemesh is the fastest-growing city in Israel, Beit Shemesh will soon realize its employment potential. The development will be done while protecting nature, we will increase revenues so that we can free up resources for investment in the city. I will also improve the transportation. The role of the mayor is to be the developer of the city and to provide all the needs of the city. Dialogue is the way through which we will advance the city, and the council members will be partners in decision-making. The elections are over, it's time to work. Thank you very much and good luck Beit Shemesh."
Immediately after the ceremony, Mayor Shmuel Greenberg led the plenary session to approve budgets totaling NIS 275 million intended for the welfare of the city's residents and intended for the construction of classrooms, kindergartens, youth clubs, road renovations, a municipal pool, covering the sports grounds, a Sportek complex and more.
