Why do I need an Insurance Agent?
Q: Why do I need a ‘trusted agent’?”
A: Short answer: because details matter - and they can save (or cost) you real money.
Real story 1:
At Egert & Cohen, we recently met an older woman who decided to transfer her policies to us. When we reviewed her file on Har HaBituach (the government site that lists all your insurance policies), we were shocked:
Her previous agent had sold her four disability policies. She had purchased another one through a telemarketing company. That’s five disability policies - yet you can only ever claim up to 75% of your gross salary. She was paying a fortune for coverage she could never use.
We cancelled the unnecessary policies, saving her money and restoring her faith in the value of a trustworthy insurance agent.
Real Story 2:
Our client travelled to visit family in the US. While there, he started feeling chest pain. He was taken to hospital and underwent emergency heart bypass surgery. His policy also covered flying his wife out to be with him.
He was recovering well but both he and his wife needed to return home to their small kids.We negotiated with the insurance company and they agreed to send him back to Israel with a medical escort.
Total cost:Nearly $150,00.
Q: “Direct companies (AIG, Bituach Yashir, etc.) look cheaper. Shouldn’t I just go direct?”
A: You’re asking an insurance agent… we’re biased! But seriously: Consider who’s in your corner when things get messy:
Accident headache? You’re in an accident with a Palestinian driver insured in Hebron. Who’s going to track down the foreign insurer and push the claim? We will.
‘Not our fault,’ says the bus company. A parked-car smash, and the bus operator refuses to accept responsibility. Who preps the file and guides you through Small Claims Court? We do.
Oops-young driver not listed. Your teen borrows the car, and of course that’s when the accident happens. Coverage? Not as is. Who goes to the insurer to negotiate an ex-gratia (goodwill) payment? We will.
Direct can feel cheaper - until you need an adult in the room!
Bottom line:
A trustworthy agent doesn’t just 'sell insurance'. We protect your time, your money, and your sanity - before a claim, during the claim, and after. If you want us to take a quick look at your portfolio (no pressure), we’ll pull your Har Bituach snapshot, flag gaps/overlaps, and give you a simple action plan.
