The Sha'ar HaGai Heritage Center tells the story of the brave heroes of the truck convoys who took supplies to besieged Jerusalem during the War of Independence.
Through interactive exhibits and testimony from the fighters your family will learn about the history of the struggle for Jerusalem. The exhibit really gives a sense of the risks and sacrifices that were made. You will take a virtual ride in an armored vehicle and see a powerful presentation that describes the high price the generation of 1948 paid in their struggle to keep the lifeline to Jerusalem open. Hear the stories from the fighters and take part in the decision-making challenges that faced the heroes.
You can also see the restored armoured vehicles from the period. This is a memorial site to those killed in the ambushes and the fighting.
The entrance to the museum is well signposted from the Mesilat Zion petrol station on Road 38, about 20 minutes from Beit Shemesh.
Book a tour in English in advance on the website: https://en.parks.org.il/reserve-park/gay/
