2025 - The Turning Point for Transportation in Beit Shemesh
This morning the mayor announced "Significant upgrades to junctions, roads, and new infrastructure that will change the reality for Beit Shemesh residents".
A meeting with a delegation from the Beit Shemesh Municipality took place last Wednesday at the Netivei Israel offices. Senior city officials were presented with detailed timelines for the major road projects planned for 2025, which will ease and upgrade many of the city's major roads. During the meeting they discussed the status of the projects, future needs, and changes that will significantly ease traffic flow in the city. Many senior city representatives were at the meeting along with senior officials from Netivei Israel and the Housing Ministry.
Road 3855 Upgrade: A Game Changer
One of the main projects is the upgrade of Road 3855 (also known as Road 10), which includes 9 intersections along the road. The junctions, including the Mishkafayim Junction and others, will undergo significant development with an investment of millions of shekels. For example, the large junction at the entrance to Nocham will be expanded and adapted to improve traffic flow. Additionally, upgrades are planned for the Yigal Alon/BIG intersection, the Yosef Karo St intersection (towards Heftziba), and others, which will lead to significant improvements in traffic safety and flow.
According to the timelines presented at the meeting, the first projects are expected to start by the end of the first quarter of this year. These include the junctions with Rabbi Yosef Karo St, HaRav Herzog St, and HaYarkon. At the request of Mayor Shmuel Greenberg, the project will also include the installation of cameras at all intersections, connected to the municipal and police control centers, a move that will enhance security in the traffic areas.
Completion of Work on Road 38 and a Tender for Big Interchange
The most significant upgrade, work on Road 38, will be completed by the end of 2025. During the discussion, Mayor Shmuel Greenberg requested that planning for the addition of a third lane along the entire road begin immediately. The tender for the Big Interchange is expected to be issued by April, with a goal to complete the project within two years.
Netivei Israel CEO, Nissim Peretz, noted during the discussion "Beit Shemesh is developing in an inspiring way. Unfortunately, until today, the future of the city was not given enough thought, only immediate solutions. I am pleased with the cooperation. However, we must ensure that the infrastructure addresses not only the coming years but also the next decade and even the next two decades! The issue of railways and long-term infrastructure must be included now." In some cases, the CEO instructed to mobilize teams that will work 24/6 if necessary, and Netivei Israel will fund the gaps to accelerate the schedules.
Mayor Shmuel Greenberg said "The cooperation with Netivei Israel, led by CEO Nissim Peretz, along with the support of Minister Miri Regev and MK Uri Maklev, is a reflection of our commitment to solving traffic congestion and finding both short- and long-term solutions. This year, 2025, will be a turning point for the city in terms of main traffic routes, and simultaneously, we will begin work on upgrading public transport routes."
