A nationwide strike is planned for this Sunday, 17th 2025
A planned nationwide strike on Sunday has been called by families of the hostages held by terror groups in Gaza. Many companies and organizations announced that they would join the strike which is planned for this Sunday17th August, starting at 7am.
Protest marches and demonstrations are planned across the country – so expect disruptions to traffic.
As of today (Thursday 14th August at 1pm), the following companies have said that they are joining the strike.
Meta, Wix, Fiverr, Honeybook, Mint Media, Fireblocks, BigID, Papaya Global, Rampi, Natural Intelligence and others, alongside some large venture capital funds. Tnuva announced today that it will join the strike.
The President of the Manufacturers' Association, Dr. Ron Tomer, addressed all of its member industrial and high-tech companies and expressed support for granting leave to employees who wish to participate in events on Sunday.
The Medical Association announced that any doctor is allowed to join the strike.
The Bar Association will also join the strike. The association called on major law firms to allow employees to participate in protests that day, without having their day off taken away.
Several Universities said they would allow staff to attend protest events, but refrained from formally declaring a strike. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Technion and the Open University all issued statements backing the strike that is set for Sunday. However, some of the schools noted that exams scheduled for that day will go ahead as planned.
The chairman of the Histadrut, Arnon Bar-David, announced that the organization is not joining the strike, so the public sector is expected to work as usual. However, the Histadrut made it clear that it will call on managements and workers' committees to allow all workers who wish to participate in protest events to do so, without their rights being violated.
Seventy-five Local Authorities are choosing to support the strike, such as Tel Aviv-Yafo, Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut, Haifa, Herzliya, Ra'anana and many more. The list doesn’t include Jerusalem or Beit Shemesh. Channel 12 reported that the Federation of Local Authorities said it would let each municipality decide for itself what to do on Sunday.
Please note: If an employer decides to join the strike and close the workplace, they are obligated to pay full wages for that day - provided that the employee was available for work. So even if the entire workplace will be closed on Sunday, all the employees are entitled to pay for that day.
