Stormy weather is making its way to us and will include strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, flash floods and also snow in the north in the mountains.
Tonight significant rainfall is expected, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and hail. More than 100mm rain is forecast in the Jerusalem areas over a period of only about 12 to 18 hours.
The winds will become very strong during the evening and will reach their peak late night and Tuesday afternoon, with gusts of 70-80 km/h, and gusts of 100-110 km/h in the coastal areas and in the mountains. Such strong winds can cause damage such as falling trees, flying objects and damage to infrastructure such as power lines and railways. There may even be disruptions to flight schedules. The coastal area will be under a "red" wind warning from Monday midnight to Tuesday afternoon.
The winds will gradually weaken only on Tuesday afternoon.
Due to the high amounts of rain in the Judean and Samarian mountains, significant flooding is expected in the Dead Sea streams and the Judean Desert from tonight until Tuesday evening. Also, flooding is expected in the Sorek, Lachish, Shikma, and HaBesor rivers and their tributaries due to the heavy rain in the Judean Lowlands and the Jerusalem Mountains.
Flooding is expected from Tuesday morning until noon also further west in the Lachish area to Ashdod and Ashkelon due to the heavy rainfall.
Haze and limited visibility are expected in the central and northern Negev due to the strong winds.
Heavy snow is expected on Mount Hermon, and in the northern Golan, and maybe even Mount Meiron.
