A new pilot project was launched at the start of the week for El Al passengers to do self check-in at machines in Ben Gurion airport. This innovative move is expected to reduce the wait in long and exhausting lines, especially during the busy summer season.
In March a pilot project was announced at the National Airport for foreign airlines, which will allow self-check-in with the help of digital kiosks situated in the terminal. Now El A is joining the revolution, and allowing its customers to self-check in and print the tags for the suitcase themselves.
Digital machines have been installed for passenger self-service in the A, B and G sectors of Terminal 3. From now on, if you fly with El Al, after you have checked-in online, you can go to one of the digital kiosks, weigh and scan your luggage and receive a tag that must be attached to the handle of the luggage. All this after you have of course completed the security check, which is mandatory for all those leaving Israel.
The barcode on the label of the suitcase will be scanned near the conveyor-belts that will take the luggage straight into the belly of the plane. The passengers can then move quickly to the passport checks, and from there they can go straight to the Duty Free store!
The pilot project will continue with the following airlines: Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Air Canada and Cathay Pacific.
The innovative move is expected to help significantly to relieve the pressure and queues that we remember badly from last summer, and it seems that the Airports Authority is putting a lot of effort into making travel easier in the upcoming summer season.
