Starting today (Thursday, 6th July, 2023), the Israel Tax Authority is making the 106 Tax forms for the last 6 years available online. The move will be a significant help in the process of submitting applications for a tax refund and will help people with the process of obtaining their tax returns.
Form 106 is an annual certificate issued to the employee by each employer, and shows the total salary amount, tax deductions and social contributions from all months of the tax year. In accordance with the law, the form is given to the employee by the employer in the first quarter of the year, for the preceeeding year.
Until today, employees who needed this document but no longer had it in their possession, had to contact their employer in order to request it. If it was not possible to obtain it (whether due to the closure of the workplace or for any other reason), the employees were required to contact their local income tax office to request the form, or pay a fee to a representative who would obtain the form for them. The online service launched today to the public effectively eliminates the need for this, and makes the forms for the last 6 years available in each person's personal area of the site.
The new service is intended to help and make it easier for the taxpaying public to receive the tax refunds from overpayment of taxes. This could happen due to changes in personal circumstances that were not reflected in the employer's tax calculation, for example, leaving a workplace during the year, receiving a retroactive disability certificate entitling them to a tax exemption, having a new child and more. Receiving a tax rebate requires the submission of an annual report to the income tax office. Employees who are not required to submit an annual report, can apply for a tax refund up to six years back.
The Director of the Tax Authority, Eran Ya'akov, said: "The new service is another step by the Authority to implement its strategy that places the customer at the center and is part of the efforts to improve the service and increase the opportunity for the public to receive their rights, and if they have overpaid tax to obtain tax refunds."
