Are you flying abroad this week? Please take note!
Terminal 1 at Ben Gurion Airport opened for operations early Sunday morning. This is due to the increase in passenger traffic at Ben Gurion Airport and the return of international airlines to operations in Israel.
All flights to Eilat will take off from it, as well as some international flights. In the first phase, the Israeli companies El Al, Arkia, Sun D'or and IsraAir will operate from Terminal 1, and later this month, with its expected return to operations in Israel, Wizz Air will also operate from the terminal. In September, additional international companies are expected to operate from the terminal.
Sun D'Or flights to the following destinations will depart from Terminal 1: Belgrade (Serbia), Tbilisi (Georgia), Batumi (Georgia), Tirana (Albania), Paphos and Larnaca (Cyprus), Heraklion (Crete), Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Lefkada (Greece).*
Due to the high numbers passing through the airport, the Airports Authority advises passengers to follow these instructions:
~ Check the latest flight schedule on the airport website.
~ Check which terminal your flight is leaving from - Terminal 1 is now open again for many airlines.
~ Check-in from home and have the boarding passes printed out or ready on your phone.
~ Arrive at the airport only three hours before the flight.
~ When travelling with children, only one adult needs to wait in line, the rest of the family can wait at the side until it's their turn to check-in.
~ There are now machines in the airport departure area to check-in for the flight and get luggage tags, which speeds up the process.
~ Reservists and members of the security forces are advised to carefully check that no weapons or ammunition are left in their bags.
~ Passengers travelling just with hand luggage will be able to go through a quick security check in section W.
*Sundor flights to the following destinations will depart from Terminal 3: Chisinau (Moldova), Porto (Portugal), Tivat (Montenegro), Kefalonia (Greece), Warsaw and Krakow. Please see their webpage for more information, and details about tax refunds: https://www.elal.com/eng/sundor/
